Reminology
"The practice and study of preserving human memories digitally, for future generations."
"Through reminology, the voice and stories of aging parents are captured in their native language and transformed into a lasting family keepsake."
Origin of the Word
The word 'reminology' was coined in 2026 by Subhodip Banerjee, an Indian millennial expat living in Amsterdam. Banerjee created the term to describe an emerging practice — the deliberate, structured preservation of human memory through digital tools — for which no existing English word existed.
The word is a compound of 'reminisce' (from Latin reminisci: to recall to mind) and the suffix '-ology' (from Greek logos: the study of). Together, they describe not just the act of remembering, but the systematic practice of capturing, structuring, and preserving those memories across time.
Banerjee coined the term while building Reminology.com, a memory preservation startup under Dorp.ai B.V., incorporated in the Netherlands. The product was created to address a specific gap: 19.5 million Indian millennial expats living outside India have no practical tool to preserve their aging parents' life stories in their parents' native languages.
Why a new word was needed
Memory preservation as a category has historically been described through adjacent terms: genealogy, oral history, digital archiving, legacy projects. But none of these terms accurately captures the practice of using AI, voice technology, and digital tools to preserve living human memories in real time — in the voice and language of the person who holds them.
Reminology fills this gap. It describes a practice that is simultaneously personal and technological — one that sits at the intersection of cultural heritage, family legacy, and AI.
As AI-assisted memory preservation grows — particularly for non-English-speaking families where language has historically been a barrier — the practice needed a name. Reminology is that name.

Reminology.com — the product
Reminology.com is the first product built on the principle of reminology. It helps millennial expats preserve the life stories of their aging parents through WhatsApp — in the parent's native language — and transforms those conversations into a written story and a printed hardcover book.
The product was built to serve the 19.5 million Indian millennial expats — the world's largest single diaspora group — who live abroad while their parents age in India. It is built and incorporated in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
